Micromax to launch CyanogenMod based Android smartphones
The
popular Indian smartphone manufacturing company Micromax is going to launch CyanogenMod
based Android smartphones in India, at the end of this year 2014. A recent news
reveals that the Micromax has a deal with cyanogen to manufacture CyanogenMod
based smartphones in India. Already Cyanogen has partnerships with the two new
popular smartphone manufacturing companies like Oppo and OnePlus. Now in
addition to these two manufacturing companies, Micromax became the third
company to make deal with Cyanogen.
What is CyanogenMod?
CyanogenMod is an open source Operating System that runs on smartphones
and tablets, based on Android. Also, CyanogenMod is available as FOSS (Free and
open source software – This software can be used and copied by anyone as it is
freely licensed. Hence, this software design can be modified by any user, if
needed). The main feature of CyanogenMod is that, the software can be easily
customized by the user. In other words, it is an external layer of Android that
can be customized by the user. Some of the features of Cyanogen Mod are native
theming support, a large list of access point names, tethering support and customizable
pull down notification bar.
Micromax going to launch these CyanogenMod based headsets under the
brand name “Yu”. This Yu phones comes with Android, but Cyanogen is going to be
their external software. It is expected that Micromax will provide warranty for
Yu brand phones, even though their phones are rooted. These Yu brand Micromax
smartphones is expected to be sold in online stores only and it will not
available in a retail store. It is expected that the Micromax Canvas 5 is going
to be the first smartphone, under this Yu brand.
It is rumoured that the Micromax Canvas
5 is expected to come with 5 Inch 1080p Full HD display. The Canvas 5 might
come with an Octa core processor with the MediaTek chipset. It is tipped that
the Canvas 5 is said to come with 16GB of internal memory and its memory will
be extended by the external memory of up to 32GB via microSD card slot. The
Random access memory will be 2GB. Also, this smartphone is going to come with
18 Megapixel rear camera and 5 Megapixel secondary camera to take beautiful
selfies. This Yu brand CyanogenMod device is expected to come with Android
4.4.4 Operating System. It might also have good battery backup and its external
panel is expected to come with an aluminium finish.
The OnePlus is going to launch its new
smartphone OnePlus One in India on December 2, 2014. OnePlus is the second
smartphone manufacturing company that has deal with Cyanogen. But now, this
OnePlus One smartphone, which is going to be launched on 2nd
December 2014 won’t support by CyanogenMod due to some reasons. Since, OnePlus
won’t support CyanogenMod Micromax has a chance to achieve a good position in
the market, by its Yu brand smartphones. As there are many features in using
CyanogenMod based smartphones, it is expected that Micromax will launch its new
Yu brand devices as soon as possible. This Micromax Yu brand
CyanogenMod devices, might take an important part in the revolution of
smartphones.
